More than thirty years ago, one of the very first French grindcore bands was formed by the creative minds of Franck Peiffer and Frederic Houriez. Ludovic Loez (Supuration/SUP) later joined them. In 1990, PUTRID OFFAL emerged as one of the earliest, if not the very first, goregrind acts from France. They swiftly released their first demo, "Unformed," in 1990, catching the attention of the global grindcore underground scene.
This momentum led to the creation of their "At the Sight of the Foul Offal... sprit 7 EP," in collaboration with grindcore legends Agathocles (Skin Drill / Seraphic Decay, 1991). Numerous tracks from PUTRID OFFAL appeared on compilations worldwide, such as "Appointment with Fear - Cyber Music" from the Netherlands and the cult Slap-A-Ham US label's "Billeeeeaaauuurrrrgghhh!"
With the increasing recognition of their primary band and the commitments that came with it, Ludovic Loez chose to depart the group. He was swiftly succeeded by Boris Reisdorff. This change coincided with PUTRID OFFAL's return to the studio to record their iconic "Premature Necropsy" split LP with Switzerland's Exculceration (Wimp / Adipocere). The band embarked on several European tours, making significant stops in Belgium and Germany. Additionally, they were recruited by France's Underground Records to contribute to a forthcoming compilation CD, "Obscurum Per Obscurius" (1993), which featured bands from Northern France.
In 1994, due to creative divergences, Boris Reisdorff left the band. PUTRID OFFAL chose to redefine their sound, experimenting with a more industrial approach that included incorporating a drum machine. This transformation led to the change in their name to M.PHERAL. Under this new moniker, they released an EP and a full-length album.
Meanwhile, PUTRID OFFAL entered a lengthy hiatus. However, in 2013, two decades after their last recording, Frederic Houriez and Franck Peiffer, along with Philippe Reinhalter (Division Alpha), resurrected PUTRID OFFAL's musical endeavor. The band joined the Kaotoxin roster and embarked on re-recording their entire back catalog along with additional bonus material. Their release "Mature Necropsy," which debuted in February 2015, left a resounding impact, delighting both long-time fans and newcomers alike.
Following this release, PUTRID OFFAL made a triumphant return to the stage, gracing major European and French festivals. They even embarked on two tours alongside iconic bands Mercyless and Inhume, covering territories including France, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Belgium. The band's appearance at Hellfest in 2017 marked a significant highlight, leading to the creation of their first DVD documenting the performance.
Subsequently, PUTRID OFFAL returned to the studio to record the "Anatomy" EP, featuring Laye Louhenapessy's first recordings with the band. Their second full-length album, "Sicknesses Obsessions," was released on Xenokorp Records in 2020. This album showcased the band's musical evolution while preserving the core essence of PUTRID OFFAL's unique style.
In recent times, after making appearances at various festivals, PUTRID OFFAL retreated to their own studio to commence a new chapter in their extensive history. The enduring legacy of this resurrected band continues to thrive. All hail the resurgence of the walking dead!
